In Oklahoma, the IRS donation date is the day your vehicle is physically picked up—not the day you call. To claim your car donation on this year’s taxes, your car must be towed away on or before December 31. Sooner Auto Ally, benefiting Heritage for the Blind, offers fast, free pickup Monday–Saturday, even during the holiday rush. To be safe, schedule your pickup at least 3–5 business days before December 31 so we can secure a year-end pickup slot for you.
Whether you’re in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman, Edmond, Lawton, Moore, Broken Arrow, or out near Mustang, Yukon, or Midwest City, we make year-end donating simple. The online form takes about two minutes, and there’s no inspection or repairs required—non-running vehicles are welcome. After your vehicle sells, Heritage for the Blind mails you a written acknowledgment (and IRS Form 1098-C when required), but the deduction year is based on the pickup date. Donate your car now, beat the Oklahoma year-end rush, and help fund services for people who are blind or visually impaired.

Free towing anywhere in Oklahoma
30–60 minutesA professional tow partner comes to you—home, work, or even a repair shop in OKC, Tulsa, Norman, Edmond, or beyond. Your car can be non-running and doesn’t need repairs. The day it’s towed away is your official IRS donation date.
Receive your same-year donation proof
After pickupYou’ll receive an initial towing/donation confirmation when your vehicle is picked up. That confirms your deduction year as long as pickup was by December 31. Keep this with your records for your Oklahoma federal tax return.
Get your IRS Form 1098-C (if applicable)
Within weeks after saleAfter your vehicle sells, Heritage for the Blind mails your written acknowledgment, and if it sells for more than $500, IRS Form 1098-C. The sale may be later, but your deduction still applies to the year the car was picked up.
Year-end tax deduction facts
Pickup date sets your deduction year
For the IRS, the donation date is when your vehicle is actually picked up and transferred, not when you call or submit the form. To claim the deduction for this tax year, your car must be towed away on or before December 31.
Form 1098-C for vehicles over $500
If your donated vehicle sells for more than $500, Heritage for the Blind issues IRS Form 1098-C. This form shows the gross sale price, and that amount generally becomes the limit of your charitable vehicle deduction.
You must itemize using Schedule A
To claim a car donation deduction, you must itemize deductions on Schedule A of your federal Form 1040. If you take the standard deduction, you typically cannot separately claim the vehicle donation on your federal return.
Written acknowledgment required
The IRS requires a written acknowledgment from the charity for vehicle donations. Heritage for the Blind mails this after your car sells. Even if the letter arrives later, the deduction year is still based on your pickup date.
December 31 is the hard cutoff
If your vehicle is picked up on or before December 31, it generally counts for that tax year. A pickup on January 1 or later counts for the next year—even if you scheduled the donation or filled out the form in December.
