Before donating your car, remove the garage-door remote, spare house keys, toll transponder, parking permits, disability placards, insurance card, registration, glovebox papers, and all personal items. Check under seats, visors, consoles, seat-back pockets, trunk, and spare-tire well. Factory-reset the infotainment system so Bluetooth pairings, HomeLink, saved addresses, and contacts are erased. Remove optional add-ons only if the car stays intact and as-described. Leave the keys and the signed-over title with the car.
Your pre-pickup checklist
Remove security items first
Start with anything that could open a door or identify a private location. Take the garage-door remote, gate fob, building access card, spare house keys, mailbox keys, and any key rings not needed for the donated vehicle. Check the visor, cup holders, center console, door pockets, and key tray. Leave only the vehicle keys needed for pickup.
Pull billing devices next
Remove the toll transponder, parking payment tag, fuel card, car-wash pass, and any device tied to a billing account. Then log in to that account and remove the donated vehicle from it. Do both steps. Pulling the tag helps, but account cleanup helps prevent future charges if the plate, VIN, or tag remains listed.
Clear the glovebox papers
Take out the insurance card, registration copy, maintenance receipts, repair invoices, owner notes, and any paperwork with your name, address, phone number, loan information, or account numbers. Keep donation-related paperwork you need for your records. If the glovebox has the owner manual, you may leave it unless you want it.
Sweep cabin and trunk
Work from front to back. Check under both front seats, between cushions, seat-back pockets, floor mats, door pockets, visors, sunglasses holders, cup holders, the center console, and the rear cargo area. Open the trunk and lift the floor panel. Look in the spare-tire well, side compartments, tool trays, and any organizer bins.
Wipe stored vehicle data
Use the infotainment settings to delete personal data. Remove Bluetooth pairings, call history, contacts, navigation destinations, saved home and work addresses, Wi-Fi settings, garage-door programming such as HomeLink, and app logins. If available, run a factory reset. If the screen requires a PIN you do not have, remove what you can.
Remove optional add-ons carefully
You may remove personal aftermarket items such as dash cams, phone mounts, upgraded stereos, removable speakers, child seats, emergency kits, and toolboxes. Do not strip parts the donation was described with. Keep the vehicle intact, accessible, and able to match the condition you reported to Sooner Auto Ally when you arranged free pickup.
Leave pickup essentials behind
Leave the keys and the signed-over title with the car. Put them where the tow operator can receive them as directed. Do not leave your wallet, cash, cards, checks, garage remote, toll tag, or personal documents with those items. If you have multiple keys, leave the vehicle key and any key fob needed to move it.
Items that need separate handling
Some items are easy to confuse with the car donation paperwork. Parking permits and disability placards should come out during your sweep because they may be tied to a person, household, workplace, or agency. For license plates, use our separate guide: License Plates After Donation. For release of liability, use our separate guide: Release of Liability After Donation. If an ownership question does not match your situation, check with the Oklahoma DMV before pickup.
Common questions
Should I leave the insurance card in the car?
No. Remove the insurance card and any registration copy from the glovebox. Those documents can include your name, address, policy number, and vehicle details. Keep them with your records until you have completed your own insurance and donation follow-up.
What if I forget something in the car?
Contact Sooner Auto Ally as soon as you notice. Recovery may depend on where the vehicle is and whether it has already moved through the donation process. The best protection is the 15-minute sweep before the keys and signed-over title leave with the vehicle.
Do I need to reset every electronic feature?
Reset what you can access. Focus on Bluetooth pairings, contacts, call history, saved navigation addresses, garage-door programming, Wi-Fi, and app logins. A factory reset is best if the menu offers it. If the system is dead or locked, remove any portable devices and personal papers.
